Frequently Asked Questions

Reflexology

How many sessions will I need?
This will depend on the conditions to be treated, but generally improvement is noticed after 4 - 6 weekly sessions. Or occasional sessions are a wonderful treat to calm and de-stress.

Who can benefit from reflexology?
Almost everyone can gain some benefit, by relaxing and re-balancing the body , allowing it to heal and repair itself. The deep relaxation promotes a feeling of well-being, reduces stress levels and releases endorphins to help reduce pain.

Is there anyone who should not have reflexology?
Reflexology is a gentle, safe, non-invasive therapy and is suitable for children and the elderly. However, it is not suitable to treat anyone who has conditions such as thrombosis, embolism, phlebitis, gangrene or shingles. Reflexology should be used very cautiously in the first three months of pregnancy, but can be very helpful through the remainder of the pregnancy.

Does reflexology hurt or tickle?
The gentle but firm pressure used is such that even those with ticklish feet find it relaxing. There may be areas of tenderness which indicate an underlying imbalance, but this feeling will be transitory and the treatment plan will be adjusted accordingly.

What can I expect after a treatment?
Most people feel very relaxed as though they had woken from a refreshing sleep. Some people feel tired or slightly unwell in the 24 hours following treatment, but this soon passes and is an indication that the body is responding to treatment. It is important to drink plenty of fluids after treatment, to flush any toxins released out of the body, and to rest as much as possible.

Can you treat me if I have veruccas or athletes foot?
Veruccas may be covered with a plaster and the foot can be treated as normal. If you have athletes foot, it is not possible to treat the foot due to risks of cross-infection, but reflexology can be performed on the hand instead until the condition has been treated.

Indian Head Massage

Is there anyone who cannot be treated?
There are certain conditions when it is inadvisable to treat:- high fever or infectious disease, severe brusing on an area to be massaged, recent injuries to the head, neck or shoulders, scalp infections and during the first three months of pregnancy.

Will oils be used in my hair?
I do not use oils for this treatment, unless specifically requested.

How will I feel after a treatment?
Most people feel very relaxed, but you may feel drowsy. It is important to drink plenty of fluids and relax as much as possible following treatment.

What are the benefits?
Indian Head Massage relaxes the whole body, boosts circulation and loosens the scalp, increases oxygen supply to the brain and eases neck and shoulder stiffness.
This in turn brings a feeling of calm and tranquility, releases anxiety and enables clearer thinking.
